Jane Garvey (BBC 4, Womans Hour) talks to Dr Ingrid Visser about swimming with killer whales
For most people the idea of swimming with killer whales would fill them with dread but not for marine biologist Dr Ingrid Visser. For the past 20 years she’s been swimming with the orca whales of New Zealand which are considered one of the most feared predators in the world. She is now the focus of a new BBC2 TV documentary that reveals that the orca are becoming critically endangered due to overfishing and high levels of chemicals in the water. Ingrid is on a mission to save them.
‘The Woman Who Swims with Killer Whales’ documentary is on BBC2, on Wednesday 31 August 2011, at 8pm in the UK only.
