About Ingrid N. Visser’s Patreon
Some words from Dr Visser:
“Studying wild orca is truly ‘Orca-some’. Sharing my research findings with everyone is something that I really enjoy. I’m a nerd at heart – I love writing scientific articles that describe observations that I’ve made. It is my passion to protect the orca and their habitat.
But writing (and collecting the data) takes time. Although I work 7 days a week for the Orca Research Trust (ORT), I do not receive a salary from the ORT. Therefore, I must seek funding elsewhere and as such I have created a Patreon Page where supporters can contribute to my work through as little as NZ$8 a month (US$5).
My goal is to continue to produce educational material, scientific reports and peer-reviewed papers in order to keep you all informed and help us all move towards a better place where orca in the wild are better protected and we no longer keep them in captivity.”
Where does the money go?
“Scientists, like everyone, have general living costs. I don’t get paid to be a researcher, I don’t receive wages from the NGO’s that I do the advocacy work for around the world. Nor do get paid to give talks to school groups. So donations help support all of this and more. Power, food, insurance etc are all real costs that I must meet. Your support will make a difference and I want to extend my thanks in advance. With your help, together we can do more and most importantly help the orca more.
I understand that many people care about orca and want to be able to help. There are lots of ways to do that, including sharing facts and information about these amazing animals. Financial support through Patreon is something that is really appreciated and definitely needed. There is the cliché that ‘every little bit helps’ – and in this case it couldn’t be more accurate. If you can pledge $8 a month, that will start us on the road towards the next article. I really can’t say thanks enough for your support and I pledge to put the funds to good use.”
